Mumps outbreak in Philadelphia
OVERBROOK - November 9, 2010 (WPVI) — The Philadelphia Health Department is warning about an outbreak of mumps at a school in Overbrook.
19 cases of mumps have been reported at Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia.
The Jewish day school is located on Drexel Road off City Avenue.
The ill students had recently visited an out-of-state school where there was also a mumps outbreak.
The health department is working to contain the virus and has identified those who were exposed.
Officials say there is no risk to the general public as of now.
Alouette says: The Jewish community is very diligent about getting immunizations for infants and toddlers, teenagers not so much.
